Make a day (or weekend) of antiquing in Big Valley!
Wednesday is
flea market and antiques day in the Big Valley,
starting at dawn with the opening of the flea market on the field outside
Dairyland Antiques in Reedsville. For more antiques, shop nearby Big Valley Antique Center
in Milroy.
If you are coming from State College or
Harrisburg, the BVAC is located off the Milroy exit of 322, and Dairyland it is located near the Belleville Route 655 exit.
Up
to 100 vendors set up on the Dairyland field between April and November, as the weather
allows. Parking and admission is free. Both Dairyland and BVAC are large co-ops with
100 plus dealer spaces. The best place for breakfast after all that early morning
shopping is the Honey Creek Inn, take 655 back toward and under the
highway to the second light, left past the duck pond and the restaurant is about
1 1/2 miles on the left. Good for lunch too!
From Dairyland, head south
on Route 655 toward Belleville and our shop. Our shop is approx. 5 miles from Dairyland, in the
middle of Belleville. We are 3 blocks from the Wednesday livestock auction and
market. There, you'll find vendors of new and old items, Amish selling produce,
flowers and plants, a couple of country restaurants, and lots of local color.
You may park at our shop and walk to the market.
Other places of interest
nearby: In Belleville: Yoder's Tees & More sells
crafts, country decor, Boyd's bears; The Thrift & Gift Shop, carries used
items sold to benefit a Mennonite charity; Triple G gifts, at Route 655 & 305; the Brookmere Winery with tastings, tours,
and local wine; Peight's Country Store, about a mile from our shop in
Belleville, sells dry goods, unusual candies and snacks, Amish items, and deli
food. Peachey's Meats and Restaurant, along 655 between Reedsville and
Belleville, offers a variety of baked goods, meats, a restaurant, and craft
shop. Along 655, between Belleville and Allensville, is the picturesque White
Hall Store, built in 1822 and worth a stop just to see a real old country store
still in operation. A block away is Buchanan's Fabrics, with quilts, fabric,
and sewing supplies, and Yoder's Gospel Book Store. Nearby is Peachey's Greenhouse, on Back Mountain Road,
which is Amish-owned and sells hundreds of plants at good prices.
Just want
an interesting drive? Take Front Mountain Road up the length of the valley, cross 655
to Back Mountain Road and head down the other side. Along the way, you'll notice
many little shops and businesses operated by the Amish and open to the
public.
